Significance of Raksha Bandhan
Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi as it is popularly known in India is celebrated on 3rd of August 2020.
Raksha Bandhan is the festival of Gifts and Foods. During Rakhi women of all age groups send Rakhis to the mens whom they consider as their brother. Many girls send Rakhis to Soldiers in the border.
History
The history of Raksha Bandhan dates back to the period of Rani Karnavati, the widowed queen of Chittor who sent the first Rakhi to Humayun the Mughal emperor, to seeks his help. Receiving the Rakhi Humayan immediately sent his army to save Chittor.
Some also says that Draupadi had tied Rakhi to Lord Krishna during the Mahabarata period, when Krishna declared her as his sister.
When it is celebrated?
Rakhi festival is usually celebrated in the Hindu month of Sravana on the full moon day. Sravana month falls in the period of July / August of English calendar.
How it is celebrated
Rakhi is tied by the sister to her brother for protecting them from evil influences and they pray for their brothers long life and happiness.
When sister tries the rakhi to her brother, the brother in turn gives return gifts to his sister as a token of love. In India sister, brother love is considered as one of the best relationship, where they share their love towards each other. Brother, sister relationship is cute one where they both argue, fight to the extreme, but if there is an issue for any of them they will always stand their to protect each other.
